Big Hole National Battlefield

Slideshow image
The Big Hole National Battlefield memorializes the most significant conflict between Chief Joseph and the Nez Perce and the United States Army. Chief Joseph is famous for his surrendering words, "I will fight no more forever," but this battle was a victory for the Nez Perce and they were able to continue their flight to Canada afterward (if they would not ultimately make it). You can visit during a Nez Perce commemorative event, and watch the present reenact the past.
