The Ancient Bristlecone Scenic Byway winds past ancient Bristlecone Pine as it ranges from 11,000 feet above sea level across an alpine desert.
The Ancient Bristlecone Scenic Byway begins on the outskirts of Bishop and follows HWY 168 southwest from Camp Sabrina to Brockman Lane at Paiute Shoshone Indian Reservation. The byway is paved to Schulman Grove and is gravel for the remainder.
Viewing these wondrous forms that nearly pre-date civilization is an honor and a spiritual experience for most. The Methuselah Trail is where the oldest of the all the Bristlecone Pines are found but along the way look for other natural wonders, including Mt. Whitney, Mono Lake, and Mammoth Lakes Basin, all of which are open for recreational activities.
The Inyo National Forest of the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains is home to many natural wonders, including Mt. Whitney, Mono Lake, Mammoth Lakes Basin, and the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest.
