Originating in Oregon and ending in California, the Upper Klamath is an excellent destination river for advanced-intermediate boaters. The Upper Klamath forms in the Cascade Range of Oregon and tumbles through a high desert canyon lined with basalt rocks.
Whitewater difficulty increases steadily as the trip progresses, with over 40 challenging rapids along the way. When not navigating a wild rapid, there is excellent opportunity for wildlife viewing along the Upper Klamath, which is a popular stop for migratory birds.
The Upper Klamath is controlled by dam release allowing for boatable flows all spring and summer long. Trips vary in length from 1-2 days along this stretch.
