Description

Are you looking for a pretty little trout lake without having to hike to the top of some mountain? Consider scenic little Sylvia Lake, located about 21 miles due west of Whitefish (as a crow flies). Sylvia Lake is 23 acres and nestled by tall trees, even the very name Sylvia means "forest”. The lake has been stocked with cutthroat trout and grayling. The grayling fishing can be red hot on some days with the critters readily taking spinners, worms or small dry flies. On other days, well, you can always enjoy watching the loons glide across the water. There is a pleasant little picnic area and a small, rustic campground by the lake.

Basic Directions

To access the lake, drive to Star Meadows and then continue on the gravel road along Sheppard Creek (road 113). Travel about 6 miles and turn left at the sign directing you to Sylvia Lake. You can drive right to the lake and there is a new access site that allows easy launching of canoes or rowboats. There is no drive-down boat launch.
