Approximately 10 to 12 miles of the stream are fishable.
There are four undeveloped, primitive campgrounds along the trail. Murietta Camp is east of Matilija creek approximately .5 mile up Murietta Canyon. Matilija Camp, Middle Matilija, and Maple Camp are approximately .5, 3, and 6 miles up the Upper North Fork.

From Hwy 101 take Hwy 33 north to Matilija Canyon Road. Drive to the Forest Service gate (trailhead at end of road). The Matilija Canyontrail continues along the Upper North Fork, within the Matilija Wilderness, for approximately 8 miles.
